Fully Known, Fully Loved

Seeking God’s attention is unnecessary; you already have it. You need not prove your worth; He already did that. And you need not hide your quirkiness; He already knows it.

“I have something for you!” my friend texted. Since it wasn’t my birthday or a holiday, I knew it had to be something she found and couldn’t resist on her recent vacation, something that made her think of me.
Sure enough, it was a t-shirt with large flip-flops and the words “walk by faith” on it. She enclosed a note: “You can walk by faith in your flip-flops.”
My friends know that I either wear flip-flops or high heels. That’s it. I’ve worn flip-flops while wearing a winter coat and mittens. And I’ve worn heels for a day walking around New York City (not recommended).
The day I received my flip-flop and faith t-shirt, I felt known. And isn’t that what we all long for? We want to be known not only for what we do (or don’t do) or for our accomplishments or titles but also for who we are—the good, the bad, and the quirky—and still have others love us.
A. W. Tozer said, “Jesus Christ knows the worst about you. Nonetheless, He is the one who loves you most” (And He Dwelt Among Us, 2009).
If you long to be known as you are, without fancy filters or long lists of accomplishments, here is good news. Your Heavenly Father knows you and everything about you.
Seeking God’s attention is unnecessary; you already have it. You need not prove your worth; He already did that. And you need not hide your quirkiness; He already knows it.
We need not cover our fears, weaknesses, or failures. God sees them—all of them. He even knows if we wear flip-flops in the winter and high heels in the city. He knows us intimately and loves us immeasurably.
“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!” (Psalm 139:1-6, NLT).
If the thought of our Heavenly Father’s perfect knowledge makes you shudder, think instead of how it might bring you comfort:
1. Knowing God’s knowledge of us is complete, and He still loves us, can assure us of His unconditional love. Unlike hiding certain parts of ourselves from others for fear of rejection, God's perfect knowledge can free us to be authentic and honest with Him.
2. Remembering God knows everything about us should reassure us that He knows what He's doing in our lives. He knows what is best. We can seek His guidance and trust His leadings.
3. Knowing God knows us and our situations, we can find peace in times of worry, hope when we're hurting, and His strength in our struggles. None of our experiences surprise Him. If complete knowledge of us doesn’t shake Him, it need not shake us either.
The list is not exhaustive. We'd love to hear from you! What comfort did you find in God's perfect knowledge? How can His knowledge encourage you today? Please share in the comments below.
