Have you ever stood before what felt like an insurmountable wall? It might be a health crisis, a strained relationship, or a personal struggle that threatened your peace and the future you envisioned. Life as you knew it ended. The situation seemed hopeless. But could the wall be the beginning of something new instead of the end? The very thing that cracks your ego lets God’s light in, illuminating the transformative truth that the way out is Christ within.
“I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” —Galatians 2:20, ESV
In The Critical Journey, Janet Hagberg describes the wall as a circumstance where we confront the limitations of our strength. We lack answers, clarity, peace, and strength. We question ourselves, our paths in life, and our beliefs. It is a painful, humbling place, but it’s also where we discover God's resurrection power when we choose to see it as a divine invitation to a deeper life in Christ.
My wall was a chronic illness diagnosis that brought persistent pain, uncertainty, and waves of anxiety. Admittedly, these waves knocked me down because I had placed my footing on the illusion of returning to normalcy—a place of comfort and control that I thought would bring peace. But God didn’t have that for me. He had something far better.
Throughout Scripture, we find God’s promises to keep our feet from slipping (Psalm 17, Psalm 121). However, in each case, He bases His promise on the premise that we seek Him for guidance, rely on Him for wisdom, and depend on the King of Kings for security instead of comfort or control.
My feet slipped because I stood on sinking sand (Matthew 7:24-27). But God reached down, as I was drowning in worry and fear, and rescued me, planting my feet firmly on Him, the Solid Rock that is steadfast and immovable. He grounded me. God became a refuge from the storms of life, not by making them disappear, but by giving me a surpassing peace and an undeniable sense of His presence.
Our feet don’t slip when we root ourselves in God’s love instead of our perceived self-sufficiency or relentless search for answers. Psalm 18:29 tells us we can scale the wall with His help, and I have found this true. Through the extraordinary power of the Holy Spirit in us, we move from defeat to redemption. As we surrender every part of our lives to Him, His love, power, and strength become clear.
The wall is a blessing in disguise because on the other side lies your higher purpose, a profound awareness of God’s presence, and what Hagberg calls “The Life of Love.” This life is an honor beyond words to experience—a sacred space where God’s unconditional love and transformative power pour into your soul and fill every part of you with purpose, peace, and a deep connection to His divine grace.
If you’re standing before a wall today, remember that God’s resurrection power lies within you (Romans 8:11). Surrender your fears, pain, and struggles to Him. Ask God to help you scale the wall with His strength; He will. And trust that on the other side, you, too, will experience a life marked by peace, freedom, and God’s inexhaustible love.
Now is your moment of resurrection! What must you release to step into the abundant life the Lord has prepared for you, knowing His love and power are always at work?
