Throughout my life, I’ve been inspired by many remarkable women. My mother instilled in me the importance of faith and kindness. My grandmother taught me the power of perseverance and how to find moments of joy even amid life’s many challenges. From each of my aunts, I learned valuable lessons on compassion and the unbreakable bonds of family ties. Each of these wonderful women has left an indelible mark on my heart. Their faith, resilience, and strength have become the values I treasure and aspire to live by every day.

Then, there are the countless women found in the Bible. Women whose faith, courage, and strength offer timeless lessons for us all.

  • The unwavering devotion of Mary, the mother of Jesus, who in Luke 1:38, NIV said to the angel Gabriel in response to the news that she would become the mother of the Messiah, “I am the Lord’s servant, may your word to me be fulfilled."

  • The courage and bravery of Esther, who in Esther 4:16, NIV said, “If I perish, I perish” when she was asked by Mordecai to risk her life to save her people.

  • The loyalty and determination of Ruth, who in Ruth 1:16, NIV, said to her mother-in-law, Naomi, prior to leaving everything she knew. “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”

Through my ministry, I have also been blessed to encounter many remarkable women from all walks of life—women who have overcome tremendous challenges and embraced their faith and commitment to God with unwavering devotion.

One such encounter recently happened at a women’s retreat, where I was invited to speak. This event exceeded all my expectations, not because of anything I did, but because of the undeniable display of God’s faithfulness and presence throughout the day.

From the moment I arrived, there was an unmistakable sense of warmth and unity as women from different denominations and backgrounds gathered to worship and deepen their faith. I was truly moved by the kindness and openness of these women, who embraced my message about God’s boundless love. Yet, what impacted me most was a quiet, heartfelt conversation with an extraordinary 85-year-old woman of faith—an encounter I won’t soon forget.

Shortly after finishing my first session, an elderly woman approached me, whose kind, gentle presence immediately drew me in. Her face, marked by years of wisdom and experience, softened into a warm smile as she extended her hand to introduce herself. I couldn’t help but notice how her eyes, bright and filled with an unmistakable inner light, seemed to shine even brighter as she began to speak. She shared her remarkable journey with Jesus—a story spanning decades of steadfast faith. It was a journey marked by both trials and triumphs, woven with miracles throughout that deepened her faith and strengthened her love for God. Her words resonated with a depth and conviction that far exceeded anything I shared that day, serving as a poignant reminder of the profound beauty found in a life that is firmly rooted in faith.

As I listened, I was deeply humbled by her story—an inspiring testament to God’s faithfulness in the lives of those who walk closely with Him. However, what touched me to my core and brought tears to my eyes was her heartfelt declaration: “I know I’m old, and time has worn my body, leaving me frail, but the fire to share Jesus with others burns as brightly as ever within me. I pray that He continues to use me to share His message until my last day.”

Her steadfast faith and deep desire to serve God touched my heart in unexpected ways, inspiring both admiration and self-reflection. Encouraging me to pause and consider my own journey—my faith, relationship with God, and the ways I choose to live it out daily. At 85 years young, her life remained filled with purpose and an unshakable love for Jesus, a powerful reminder that sharing the Gospel knows no age limit.

Whether young or old, our age is merely a number, not a gauge to determine or limit our purpose or the impact we can make.

Her story also raised an important question: How often do we let our perceived limitations—whether physical, emotional, or circumstantial—convince us that our work for Jesus is done? And yet, there she stood, a radiant, unmistakable light shining in her eyes, a living testament to the truth that God’s purpose for us doesn’t diminish with age or hardship. On the contrary, it evolves, strengthens, and refines us over time.

Like an eternal flame, His purpose burns steadily within us, meant to shine brightly—not only in the heights of our prime but through every chapter of our lives.

Through her remarkable story, she taught me that as long as we draw breath, we have the opportunity to make a difference. While the way we contribute may look different in every chapter of our lives, the mission remains unchanged—to inspire, to serve, and to tell others of the hope we’ve found in Him.

Take a moment today to consider how you can make a difference, regardless of your age. Every act, big or small, carries the potential to inspire and uplift those around you. Begin today—serve others, spread hope, and brighten someone’s day. You’ll be glad you did!

Oh, Tara, this really touched me. As a senior and retired woman, I sometimes question whether I can still have impact. Many young adults tend to disregard the elderly, thinking they are past their prime, out of touch, and have little to offer other than old-fashioned platitudes that no longer apply to them or modern life. Your message gives me hope and makes me feel seen. I love thinking that God's purpose for me "strengthens and refines over time." Thank you. 🩷
