God Renews Strength for Every Season
Updated: Sep 9
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
Every season brings different demands. Summer often carries one pace, while fall introduces another. Responsibilities shift, routines change, and new opportunities appear. Sometimes we look ahead wondering whether we have enough strength for what’s coming.
The good news of the gospel is that God never asks us to produce strength He has already promised to supply. Isaiah writes: “They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31, ESV). Waiting on the Lord is active dependence. It is choosing to trust God’s presence instead of our own performance.
Under the New Covenant, our strength comes through our union with Christ. Paul declares: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Galatians 2:20, ESV). This means the Christian life was never designed to be lived through human determination alone. Christ’s life becomes our source, His grace becomes our empowerment, and His Spirit becomes our helper.
When we feel weak, we often assume we’ve failed. Yet Scripture presents weakness differently. Paul writes: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV). Our weakness becomes an opportunity to experience God’s strength more fully.
Perhaps you’ve entered this season carrying emotional fatigue, unanswered prayers, or responsibilities that feel overwhelming. Take heart! God isn’t asking you to become stronger before coming to Him. He invites you to come exactly as you are. Renewal begins the moment we remember that our sufficiency is found in Christ, not ourselves.
Instead of asking, “Do I have enough?”, we can begin asking, “Lord, how will You reveal Your strength through me today?” That simple shift can transform anxiety into expectancy.
The same God who faithfully carried you through previous seasons remains faithful today. His grace has not diminished, His promises have not expired, and His strength has not weakened.
And neither has His love for you.
Reflection Questions
• Where do you most need God’s strength today?
• Have you been measuring your ability instead of God’s faithfulness?
• What would it look like to depend more fully on Christ this week?
Prayer
Father, thank You that Your strength never runs dry. Teach me to rely on Christ instead of my own abilities. Renew my heart, my mind, and my spirit as I walk into this new season; let Your grace sustain me in every responsibility and every opportunity You place before me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
