God's Redeeming Love

Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he

has redeemed you from your enemies.

            —Psalms 107:2, NLT

In my hometown, the third Saturday in June is marathon day. For almost fifty years, runners, spectators, and volunteers have traveled from around the globe to participate in this annual event. Last summer, several volunteers from my local church lined up at mile marker twenty-two, handing out water and spreading joy to those who ran by. One morning, the encouragement and hope extended beyond the race course.

As the setup began, I conversed with a fellow church member. I quickly learned that, like me, this individual was also navigating life after divorce. It was early in their journey, and I sensed the wounds were still fresh. Throughout the day’s activities, I listened to their story and shared mine. I highlighted how my trial drew me closer to God in a way I had not previously experienced. I emphasized how, with the Lord’s strength, I experienced a fresh beginning. In that moment of the conversation, God gave me a new perspective on my life. I now can see how He is redeeming the broken pieces of my story to use for His glory.

I believe that sharing our stories is a way to heal from our past wounds and trauma. "The hard stuff in your life can become the best stuff to serve other people" (Johnny Parker). Remember, God uses our broken pieces on purpose. He's in the restoration business and will make something beautiful from the ashes of our lives.

Our stories are unique and valuable in the eyes of God. Every valley we’ve walked through and overcome can be a beacon of hope for someone experiencing a challenging season. We highlight God's redeeming love by using our painful experiences to create a safe environment for others to share openly. Who do you know that could benefit from hearing the story of God’s redemption in your life?
