Rejoicing Because of His Rescue

Are you preparing your Easter menu or your family’s Easter outfits and baskets? Are you gearing up for spring vacation or a visit with family and friends? While these things are meaningful and bring joy, our chief focus should be preparing our hearts. After all:

Christ is King of Kings but came as a lowly servant.

He is above all, yet He serves all.

He is worthy of our worship but bore our shame.

He was sin-free but suffered for our sins to save us.

He never lost sight of His mission, even in the face of His misery. He endured the cross for the joy set before Him—the promise of spending eternity with His Father and all who believe. Thus, we were His joy. So, regardless of what fills our days, praise can always fill our hearts.

Like David, we can declare: “. . . I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me” (Psalm 13:5-6 NLT).

Although David’s praises in those verses give the impression that everything was good in his life then, the first four verses of the psalm reveal otherwise. The questions David posed to the Lord show he was suffering, such as, “How long will you forget me? How long must I struggle with sorrow?”

You, too, may face hardships, sorrow, or have unanswered questions. Your heart may not feel ready for this weekend’s celebratory church service and family activities. You may even feel as though you’re just going through the motions. If so, consider reflecting on your reasons to rejoice: Christ’s unfailing love for and rescue of you. Because He lives, He will always see and hear you, relish and protect you, and sustain you with hope. His grace is enough, and His victory is sure.

Because of the empty tomb, we can have hearts overflowing with comfort, peace, joy, gratitude, faith, and love. We have reason to rejoice this weekend and beyond because Christ has triumphed over all our troubles and deserves all our worship.

Before scrolling on, praise your Savior and rejoice in the rescue He has provided!
